If you're a blogger, you may be troubled by your quote marks and apostrophes turning into garbage when you cut and paste from your word processing program into the blog.

There's a simple way to fix this. Go into your word processing program and change your settings to use straight quotes instead of "smart quotes" or "curly quotes." Smart quotes or curly quotes put left quotes at the beginning of sentences and right quotes at the end of sentences.

If you want to be able to cut and paste from your word processing program to your blog, first turn off smart or curly quotes in your word processing program. Then type your article, save it, and then cut and paste it into your blog.

Here's how to do it in Microsoft Word:
On the Tools menu, click AutoCorrect, and then click the AutoFormat As You Type tab. Under Replace as you type, select the "Straight quotes" check box.

In WordPerfect , go to Tools/Quick Connect and select the Smart Quotes Tab. Set for straight quotes and save. Then type your article, save it and cut and paste to your blog.
